How do I create a mail account in Outlook Express?

Click on the Outlook Express icon or from the browser click on mail and read mail.

A window may open that may prompt you to connect.  Click on the work offline icon.

The outlook express window is now open. Click on the word "TOOLS" across the top and go down to Accounts and click on accounts.

From the mail tab-Click on the ADD button on the right side of this window.  And select mail.

The Internet Connection Wizard will begin. Enter your name the way you want it to appear in the From: area when you send e-mail. Click next.

Enter your email address.  Ensure that you use lower case letters and no spaces (example: username@7cities.net) Click next.

A window will open titled EMAIL SERVER NAME.  Make sure that the incoming mail server is a POP 3 Server, NOT an IMAP Server.  POP3 is the default setting for this field. 

In the field that says "INCOMING MAIL POP3 server" enter mail.7cities.net

In the field that says "OUTGOING MAIL SMTP server" enter mail.7cities.net   Click the "NEXT" button. 

NOTE: In OE 4.0 You will get 2 error messages.  The first one says that the specified pop 3 server does not appear to be a valid server do you want to use it anyway? Click yes.  The second error message will say the specified SMTP server does not appear to be a valid server.  Do you want to use it anyway?  Click yes.

A window will open up asking you for your Internet mail logon.  In the pop account name field enter your user name.  In the password field enter your password.  Both of the fields are case sensitive.  The password field will shadow back to your screen asterisks instead of the password that you enter.  This is to protect your password from those that should not see it.  Make sure the box that says, "log on using your pop account name is checked.  DO NOT CHECK THE BOX THAT SAYS LOG ON USING SECURE PASSWORD AUTHENTICATION.  Click the NEXT button.

For Outlook Express 5.0 Congratulations click Finish and go to step v.

In the next window leave the friendly name as mail.7cities.net as it is.  Click the NEXT button.

In the next window Choose connection type- Select connect using my phone line. Click the NEXT button.

In the next window Dial-up Connection select- Use an existing dial-up connection and hi-light Cibola Internet Services.  Click the NEXT button.

Congratulations click Finish.

Click on the properties button on the right side of this window.  Enter your email address in the reply to address field at the bottom of this window. Click ok.  You will get an error message stating that the specified reply to address does not appear to be valid. Do you want to use it anyway? Click yes

Close the "Internet Accounts" window.

Click on the word "TOOLS" again.  Go down to the "options" and click options.

In the general tab, check the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th box.

In the SEND TAB change the mail sending format from HTML to Plain text.

Make sure all of the boxes at the bottom of the SEND tab are checked.

Close down the options window.

Close down OUTLOOK EXPRESS 4.0 remaining steps for OE 5.0.

Click on the word "TOOLS" again.  Go down to the "options" and click options.

In the GENERAL TAB, general section check the  1st and  3rd boxes. In the send/receive section check the 1st and 2nd boxes.  Click apply.

In the SEND TAB, sending section check the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th boxes. In the mail sending format section change the mail sending format from HTML to Plain text. Click apply.

In the MAINTENANCE TAB, cleaning up messages section check the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th boxes. Click apply.

Close down the options window.

Close down OUTLOOK EXPRESS.
