The Internet is not truly a "thing." Its more of a concept. The Internet is nothing more than a giant worldwide network that connects hundreds of thousands of computers-each of which may be connected to its own local network. That is why the Internet is often described as a "network of networks"; its just a big collection of individual computers.

So when you access the Internet, you're really just accessing an individual computer somewhere which can then access another computer, which can then access another computer…..and so on and so on, across the entire globe. When you are on the Net, however, all of this worldwide accessing becomes invisible. You move from computer to computer, from site to site, from country to country, without ever leaving your own personal computer. All you have to do is dial up and connect to the Net, launch the appropriate Internet software, and before you know it you're searching for data in massive information databases, downloading files, and exchanging messages with friends from around the world. Its that easy.

Send electronic mail (e-mail) to other users, exchange messages with members of special interest discussion groups, search for information, download files, and experience the wonders of the World Wide Web. When you consider that you now have access to hundreds of thousands of computers -and tens of millions of users-around the world, the sky's the limit!
